KAMULI - After casting her vote, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of East African Community Affairs, Rebecca
Alitwala Kadaga, has expressed optimism that the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party will win overwhelmingly in the 2026 general election.

Kadaga cast her vote at 11:45am at Busobya polling station in Mbulamuti Town Council in Kamuli district. She was accompanied by Princess Hellen Namutamba, who is also the Busoga Kingdom’s Minister of Tourism.

Kadaga (NRM) is contesting in the race for Kamuli woman MP against five opponents. They include independents: Noet Nangobi, Proscovia Naikoba Kanakutanda, Shanitah Kiiza Nuubu, Ritah Nakisige, and Babirye Bridget of National Unity Platform (NUP).

Speaking to journalists after casting her vote, Kadaga said that President Yoweri Museveni and NRM flag-bearers will win overwhelmingly in Busoga sub-region.

She said major reasons as to why NRM will increase support in the region include: lifting of the ban on the fishing conditions on the lakes and an increase in sugarcane prices, which she said has stabilised to sh125,000 per ton.

“The pressing issues I think have been addressed for now, and we had time to explain to the population in Busoga sub-region,” Kadaga said.

On the issue of the Ambercourt-Malamute-Bukungu road, Kadaga explained that last week the Ministry of Works and Transport organised a stakeholders’ meeting and discussed compensation and assured the Basoga that the road will be done under this tenure.

In Jinja, voting materials delayed reaching some polling stations despite people going to polling stations earlier.

By 9:00am vehicles were seen delivering voting materials under tight security by UPDF and Field Force Unit (FFU) Police officers.

However, polling officials considered the Electoral Commission's voting registers to allow people to vote.
