KIKUUBE - Re-elected Kikuube district LC5 chairperson Peter Banura has outlined the majors service delivery areas he plans to focus on in his second term in the office.
Banura, who faced off with National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Phenekansi Timanyire for the position, won the election with an overwhelming victory.
According to the results declared by Kikuube district Electoral Commission returning officer Emmanuel Twine on Friday at around 4:00am, Banura polled 37,455 votes (85.874%), beating Timanyire, who got 6,230 votes (16.26%).
Speaking to New Vision Online after the declaration of his victory, Banura commended the voters for giving him another term of office and promised to prioritise service delivery, through the improvement of roads, health, education and fighting land grabbing and electricity connection.
He also promised to prioritise Job creation for the young people, adding that during his campaigns, this was the major demand from the youth.
Banura added that he will mobilise the youth to embrace government programmes, including the Parish Development Model, the Youth Livelihood Programme and Emyooga.
He also promised to mobilise the youth to vocational skills training to ensure that they acquire skills that will help them create their own jobs instead of being job seekers.
Banura added that he would also advocate for the education of the girl child, adding that a large number of girls in the district drop out of schools and go for early marriage, which is a challenge for the district.
Returning officer Emmanuel Twine commended the voters for playing their part in the election exercise.
However, he expressed concern that the election registered a low turnout, adding that Kikuube district has 144,855 registered voters yet only 44,672 voted.
