The vice chairperson of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Michael Nuwagira Toyota, has congratulated President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on what he described as a decisive election victory, in which the President secured more than 71.65 per cent of the vote.
Toyota made the remarks at Lugogo Cricket Oval on Saturday (January 17), where PLU members gathered to celebrate President Museveni’s victory and continuation in office.

Addressing supporters, Toyota said Museveni’s win was not only a victory for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) but for all Ugandans, noting that the President’s continued leadership guarantees peace and national stability.
“This victory belongs to all Ugandans because the longer President Museveni remains in power, the more Uganda remains peaceful and prosperous,” Toyota said.

He further described the recently concluded elections as the most peaceful Uganda has experienced in at least the last 15 years, commending security agencies for what he termed a professional job in ensuring safety throughout the electoral process.
Toyota also praised PLU members for their role in mobilisation, saying their efforts, alongside NRM party structures, contributed to the party securing parliamentary seats in nearly all divisions of Kampala.

“You have done a commendable job. Through your mobilisation and teamwork with NRM structures, the party managed to secure Members of Parliament in almost every division of Kampala. For example, we have Hajjat Minsa Kabanda in Kampala Central, Fred Ruhindi in Nakawa East, and Madinah Nsereko in Kawempe South. This shows that the people of Kampala are beginning to appreciate the truth,” Toyota said.
He urged candidates who lost in the elections to accept defeat gracefully and begin preparations for the next electoral cycle.

“When you accept defeat, you get time to reflect on what caused your loss and work on your weaknesses. With God’s grace, victory is possible in the next elections,” he added, noting that 2031 is not far.
Meanwhile, the PLU Kampala coordinator, Safina Kenyange, called on PLU and NRM supporters to remain politically active beyond presidential and parliamentary elections.

She urged them to also participate in forthcoming local government elections, including those for district chairpersons and councillors, to enable the party to serve the country effectively at all levels.
Similarly, the PLU coordinator for Greater Mpigi, Juma Uwitonze, appealed to Ugandans, particularly the youth, to reject calls for street protests, warning that such actions could endanger lives.

He encouraged young people to remain calm and peaceful, emphasising that stability is essential for national development.
