Following a low voter turnout during last week's presidential and parliamentary elections, electoral officials and political leaders are urging renewed efforts to mobilise voters for upcoming elections.
Mike Jjuuku, the Returning Officer for Gulu City, emphasised the importance of candidates actively engaging their supporters.
He called on all candidates to leverage their campaigns to encourage the electorate to participate in the upcoming elections scheduled for tomorrow.
These elections will determine mayors, district chairpersons, and their respective councilors.
Gilbert Olanya, Member of Parliament–elect for Kilak South County in Amuru District, announced that his focus has shifted to mobilising support for the lower local government elections.
Olanya encouraged voters to participate actively in electing leaders at the local level, saying they play a critical role in implementing government programs and projects.
Similarly, Patrick Okello Onguti, the MP-elect for Aswa County in Gulu District, urged constituents to turn out in large numbers.
Onguti stressed that local government leaders are essential for the effective delivery of government initiatives.
