MUKONO - The Opposition National Unity Platform has beaten the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party in the January 20, 2026, youth elections.

James Ssebanyiiga, who was the presiding officer for the youth elections conducted at the Mukono municipality headquarters, declared NUP's Kato Muluta, who garnered 270 votes as the winner, followed by NRM’s Brian Ssentongo, who registered 239 votes and an independent candidate, Marvin Ssewava, who only got 11 votes.

However, Nakibuule protested the results, saying the polling officials had favoured the NUP candidates at their expense.

Together with her supporters, Nakibuule forced the polling officials to halt the declaration of the results, though the Police officers on duty overpowered them and helped the election officials declare the results.

NRM polling agents later refused to sign the declaration forms. Amidst tight security, the polling officials, together with the election materials, including the declaration forms, were escorted back to the EC offices.

A scuffle ensued among the NRM and NUP members, leaving several bleeding.
