Before heading out for his nomination on Thursday (October 23), the incumbent Serere County Member of Parliament of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Emmanuel Omoding Okabe, engaged in a personal activity.
He laid wreaths on the graves of his late father, Bishop Patrick Okabe (his parliamentary predecessor) and mother, Christine Okabe, as a gesture of honour and remembrance.

Omoding, who is seeking re-election to Parliament, said the moment was deeply symbolic, representing both his spiritual foundation and commitment to continue his parents’ legacy of community service.
Later, upon being duly nominated, Omoding was congratulated by Serere district returning officer Ronald Nsereko, who urged the candidate and his supporters to uphold peace, unity, and tolerance throughout the campaign period.
“Kindly go and seek your votes in peace while collaborating with the Electoral Commission and other relevant stakeholders," said Nsereko.
After being nominated, Omoding pledged to continue prioritising social-economic transformation, poverty reduction, quality education, and access to clean water, among other key development goals for Serere County.
Other candidates cleared to contest for this constituency's parliamentary seat include Stephen Ochola of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Alice Alaso of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), and Emmah Okwi (independent).
Thursday was the second and final day of the nomination of candidates for parliamentary elections countrywide.
The exercise officially started at 9am and will close at 5pm.
Meanwhile, the nominations for Special Interest Groups (youths, persons with disabilities, workers and older persons) are taking place at the Electoral Commission headquarters in Industrial Area, Kampala, within the same hours.
