NRM's Nameere wins contentious vote recount, declared Masaka District Woman MP

A certificate of vote recount signed by Asiimwe was given to Nameere as the winner late Sunday, February 1, 2026, night, overturning an earlier declaration in favour of  Nalubowa.

Nameere, who is the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party candidate, according to the latest figures, garnered 25,502 votes.

MASAKA - Masaka Chief Magistrate Abert Asiimwe has annulled Rose Nalubowa's victory as Masaka District Woman Member of Parliament and declared Justine Nameere after a contentious three-day vote recount involving four candidates.

The recount followed a petition filed by Nameere against Nalubowa and the Electoral Commission, challenging the outcome of the January 25, 2026, General Election results.

Nameere, who is the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party candidate, according to the latest figures, garnered 25,502 votes.

At the same time, her closest rival, Nalubowa of the National Unity Platform, got 23,176 votes; Democratic Front's candidate Juliet Kakande got 6,136, and independent candidate Sauya Nanyonga got 5,921.

During the recount, over five ballot boxes were found to have appeared tampered with, according to Asiimwe.
