National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag-bearer Emma Bwayo has been declared the winner of the Namisindwa district LC5 chairperson elections held on Thursday, 22 January.
Official results released by the district electoral authorities indicate that Bwayo secured 37,170 votes, defeating the incumbent chairperson Jackson Wakweika, who polled 21,619 votes.
Bwayo’s victory builds on his earlier landslide win in the NRM party primaries held on July 24, 2025, which firmly positioned him as the party’s preferred candidate ahead of the general local council elections.
The newly elected LC5 chairperson currently serves as the Marketing Manager at Nandala’s Elgon FM and is the current male youth councillor for Namisindwa District Local Government (2021–2026).
Speaking to the media shortly after the declaration of results, Bwayo underscored his commitment to ensuring that citizens have access to public services without unnecessary barriers. He noted that his leadership would prioritise efficiency, responsiveness, and fairness in service delivery, with a people-first governance approach.
“I am committed to seeing that the people of Namisindwa receive services without challenges and that leadership remains accessible to the ordinary citizen,” Bwayo said.
Bwayo’s political journey dates back to 2017, shortly after the creation of Namisindwa district from Manafwa district, when he made his first attempt to contest for the youth councillor position. Although unsuccessful at the time, he remained politically active and resilient. In 2021, he contested again and successfully secured the position of male youth councillor.
Having closely observed governance processes within the district, Bwayo started soilent grassroots engagements in 2022, traversing various parts of Namisindwa to interact with residents and understand their concerns. This long-term, low-profile mobilisation strategy gradually consolidated public support, culminating in his decisive victory in the 2026 local council elections.
Meanwhile, Namisindwa District NRM chairperson Ramadhan Wabuko, congratulated the electorate upon the party’s victory, describing it as a strong mandate that positions the ruling party to advance development initiatives in the district.
Wabuko called on newly elected leaders to unite communities beyond political affiliations, avoid post-election conflicts, and urged voters to clearly understand the distinct roles and responsibilities of elected leaders to promote accountability and effective governance.
