GULU - The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has recorded a decisive victory in the youth council elections held on Wednesday (January 21), securing key leadership positions in both Omoro district and Gulu city.
According to official results released by electoral authorities, Haron Otema of the NRM was declared winner of the male youth councillor position for Omoro district after polling 352 votes.
He defeated Komakech Richard Kamao, an independent candidate, who garnered 46 votes, and Oling Titus Alex, also an Independent, who received four votes.
The election registered four invalid votes, bringing the total number of votes cast to 406.
For the female youth councillor position in Omoro district, Franklin Scovia Laker of the NRM went unopposed and was duly declared the winner.
In Gulu city, David Rubangakene of the NRM emerged victorious in the city youth council race after securing 177 votes. He defeated Emmanuel Okane, an Independent candidate, who polled 17 votes, and Richard Onencan, also an Independent, who received 50 votes.
Vanessa Anyango of the NRM was unopposed and was declared female youth councillor for Gulu city.
In the workers’ representatives race for Gulu city, Christine Olok of the NRM retained her position as female workers’ councillor following a landslide victory in which she polled 184 votes.
She defeated Betty Kilama Lalam, who received 86 votes, and Fibi Atim, an Independent candidate, who garnered four votes. One invalid vote was recorded, bringing the total votes cast to 275.
Lambert Lamex Akena of the NRM also retained his seat as male workers’ councillor for Gulu city after polling 226 votes. He defeated Alex Odongo Okoya, an Independent candidate, who received 43 votes, while James Ocen, also an Independent, trailed with six votes.
In the elderly councillor category for Gulu city, Geoffrey Alii, an independent candidate, won the male elderly councillor position with eight votes, defeating Samuel Oduny of the NRM, who received two votes.
In the female elderly councillor race, Lucy Achiro Anywar, an Independent candidate, emerged victorious with six votes against Catherine Abalo Taban of the NRM, who polled four votes.
For representatives of persons living with disabilities in Gulu city, Caroline Adong of the NRM retained her seat as female councillor after securing six votes, defeating Everlyn Gloria Piloya, who received four votes.
Patrick Angela Ojok, an independent candidate, was declared winner of the male councillor position after polling six votes, beating Moses Ojok Oburu of the NRM, who obtained four votes.
