_______________
The National Peasants Party presidential candidate, Robert Kasibante, has explained why he halted his campaigns after a few hours on the trail.
“I had to rest and plan again. I'm now back with a lot of determination,” he said during a telephone interview with the New Vision on phone on Friday.
Asked why he dropped off after the first rally, Kasibante said that he fell sick and had to get treatment so that he would not get challenges while traversing the country for the votes.
“I fell sick. I'm happy that my doctors have done their best to put me right. I now feel well and strong again, ready to continue,” he said.
He also revealed that with some adjustments, his campaigns will move to western Uganda, from where he will go to other regions.
Kasibante started his campaigns from Mityana, where he held a rally at Zigoti playground in Busujju County, Mityana district, where he hails from. Although he was expected to be in Kassanda on the same day, he stopped in Mityana.
The following day, he had not planned for any venue but was to return on Wednesday, where he was to cover Mubende and Kyegegwa districts on the same day, but didn’t appear.
On 1st October, he was to proceed to Kyenjojo and Fort Portal City from where he was to continue to Kabarole, Ntoroko and Bundibugyo.
The presidential bid:
Kasibante, who hails from Busujju county in Mityana district, first went to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primary elections, vying for the party ticket to contest for the position of the County Member of Parliament.
He, however, lost to Vicent Nyanzi and immediately joined the National Peasants Party, where he acquired the ticket for the Presidential candidate.
Formed in 2004 by Elias Wamala Ssegujja, NPP was recently rebranded with musician Stecia Farida Mayanja taking on the mantle as party President.
Last month, however, she was kicked out with the executive accusing her of belonging to President Yoweri Museveni's mobilisation camp.
Her offence was singing at the National Resistance Movement concert at Kololo independence grounds to celebrate Museveni's nomination for the 2021 Presidential race.
