Candidates vying for parliamentary positions in the districts of Nebbi and Pakwach have started combing villages, parishes and sub-counties in search of votes.

Incumbent Nebbi Municipality Member of Parliament and ruling party NRM flag-bearer Hashim Suleiman lit up the area with yellow.

His entrance wasn’t as vivid as his exit from Hospital Upper and lower Cells with songs praising him for his work for the last eight years since Nebbi became a municipality.

He danced with his supporters from the hospital cells to the Central business district of the Municipality passing through the market, and back to his constituency offices.

He promised the people of the Municipality that he would ensure that the Nebbi-Ggoli road works are expedited to reduce the current cases of road crashes.

He also pledged to continuously lobby for a regional referral hospital that can serve the greater Nebbi districts and the neighbouring districts of Madi-Okollo, Bullisa and the DRC that also rely on medicines from the health facilities in Nebbi.

However, the camp of Emmy Ongiertho, who is Hashim’s main challenger, is accommodating the likes of Jackline Opar, who is the only female and the NRM flag-bearer vying for Mayor of Nebbi municipality.

Ongiertho, says he aims to wipe out “bad leadership”.

“What we have had here in Nebbi Municipality is just bad leadership. When I start representing the people, I will ensure that good tenets of leadership are attained".

Pakwach

In Pakwach, Marshall Alenyo OO, contesting for Jonam County Member of Parliament on Independent ticket, said he will lobby for better social services in the constituency.

"Look at what we have as a constituency or as a district, we are not doing well, the hospital is almost collapsing because it was constructed next to the river, the Fisheries Protection Unit operations, and the Palango question," he said.

He vowed to use his profession as a lawyer to advocate and represent the underprivileged when elected in Parliament, but also in the courts of law.

However, in Pakwach, National Unity Platform figure Emmanuel Rwothongeyo, who was vying for the Jonam County MP seat, was not nominated because his documents were stolen by unknown assailants.

What are the electorates say

Mary Alibazibwe, a resident of Hospital cell in Nebbi Municipality, said she will vote for a kind leader.

Fosca Kwiyucwiny, a resident of Hospital cell, vowed to canvass votes for a leader who is people-centred, minds about their security and other social services.

Jinaro Onen, a resident of Wadelai sub-county, said they will vote for a leader who will ensure that he looks into the issues of the FPU operations and the Palango question.
