Museveni Kigezi campaign goes to Rukiga, Kabale

President Yoweri Museveni is today, November 25, 2025, campaigning in the neighbouring districts of Rukiga and Kabale as he continues his quest for votes in the Kigezi sub-region. This will be Museveni's second day in the region after campaigning in the districts of Rubanda and Kisoro yesterday.

Museveni, who is standing on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party ticket, is campaigning under the theme: Protecting the Gains, Making a Qualitative Leap into High Middle-Income Status.

The theme focuses on safeguarding achievements over the past 39 years, including peace and development, while aiming to propel Uganda to a high-middle-income status.

Other gains include wealth creation initiatives, job opportunities, service delivery, market access, as well as East African political federation.

By the time of writing this story, Museveni was set to hold his first campaign rally of the day at Rwamucucu playground in Rukiga and his second and final political event at Kigezi High School Lower playground in Kabale.

Rukiga has a population of 132,355 people scattered across six sub-counties/town councils, 30 parishes and 293 villages.

In the 2021 general election, Rukiga had 60,965 registered voters, and out of these, 39,795 (65.3%) voted.

Museveni polled 31,251 (81.8%) votes while his chief rival, Robert Kyagulanyi of the National Unity Platform party, garnered 3,959 (10.4%).

Rukiga now has a total of 65,492 voters, an increase of 4,527. The polling stations also increased to 167, up from 115 in 2021.

In Kabale, 285,588 inhabitants are living in 15 sub-counties/town councils, 79 parishes and 728 villages.

In the last 2021 2021 general election, Kabale had 136,559 registered voters, and out of these, 91,024 (66.7%) voted.

The incumbent President polled 75,032 (84.5%) votes while Kyagulanyi garnered 8,168 (9.2%).

Kabale now has a total of 147,069 voters, an increase of 10,510. The polling stations also increased to 365, up from 256 in 2021.
