President Yoweri Museveni will today (Tuesday) be campaigning in neighbouring districts of Nakaseke and Nakasongola, his traditional strongholds.
His first campaign rally of the day will be in Nakaseke, and the second and final one in Nakasongola.
Museveni cemented his status in the 2021 general election in both districts despite the National Unity Platform (NUP) party wave that swept through the Buganda region.
In that election, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party candidate polled 38,009 (53.51%) votes in Nakaseke while his closest challenger, Robert Kyagulanyi of NUP, garnered 32,063 (45.14%).
In Nakasongola, Museveni received 35,823 (65.18%) votes while Kyagulanyi got 18,213 (33.14%).
Both Nakaseke and Nakasongola were carved out of Luwero district with an aim of bringing services closer to the people.
Nakasongola, which suffered from relative neglect due to the distance from the then district headquarters, was the first to be created in 1997, before Nakeseke in 2005.
Museveni, who has led Uganda uninterrupted since January 1986, is campaigning under the theme: 'Protecting the Gains, Making a Qualitative Leap into High Middle-Income Status.'
The theme focuses on safeguarding achievements over the past 39 years, such as peace and development, while aiming to propel Uganda to high middle-income status.
Other gains include wealth creation initiatives, job opportunities, service delivery, market access, as well as East African political federation.
