President Yoweri Museveni is today (Thursday) campaigning for re-election in the 2026 general election in the districts of Manafwa and Bulambuli, which have long grappled with landslides triggered by heavy rains.
Museveni is set to hold his first campaign rally of the day at Bugobero High School playground in Bugobero Town Council, Manafwa, and his second and final event at Nabbongo Secondary School playground in Nabbongo Sub-county, Bulambuli.
Manafwa has a population of 186,917 people spread across 32 sub-counties and town councils, 157 parishes, and 1,309 villages.
In the last general election of 2021, Manafwa had 79,924 registered voters. Of these, 50,977 (63.78%) voted. President Museveni, who was also running on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party ticket, polled 32,999 (67.17%) votes in Manafwa, while his main rival from the National Unity Platform (NUP), Robert Kyagulanyi, garnered 13,740 (27.97%).
Manafwa now has 93,122 registered voters, an increase of 13,198. The polling stations have risen to 265, up from 211 in 2021.
In Bulambuli, there are 235,391 inhabitants living in 26 sub-counties and town councils, 123 parishes, and 1,313 villages.
In the 2021 general election, Bulambuli had 71,664 registered voters. Of these, 52,560 (73.34%) voted. Museveni polled 38,972 (76.4%) votes, while Kyagulanyi garnered 10,788 (21.14%). Kyagulanyi is again contesting in the 2026 general election, which has a total of eight presidential candidates.
Bulambuli now has 79,699 registered voters, an increase of 8,035. The polling stations have increased to 257, up from 245 in 2021.
Museveni is campaigning for a seventh term under the theme “Protecting the Gains, Making a Qualitative Leap into High Middle-Income Status.” The theme focuses on safeguarding achievements made over the last 39 years, such as peace and development, while aiming to propel Uganda to a high middle-income status.
These achievements include ushering in an era of peace, fostering development, promoting wealth creation initiatives, job creation, service delivery, market access, as well as unity and political stability.
