Kyabwisho retains Mbarara City North Division Mayor seat

MBARARA - Gumisiriza Kyabwisho Katozi, the Independent (NRM) leaning, defeated Benon Mugume, the NRM flag bearer, to win the Mbarara City North Division mayor race.

Kyabwisho, the incumbent mayor for Mbarara City North, was on Tuesday night declared a winner by the Mbarara City returning officer, Violet Atuhurra, at Mbarara Tally Centre, after he garnered 8183 votes against Mugume’s 7227 votes in a hotly contested election to retain his seat.

Other candidates, Mukasa a Kamwebaze, an Independent, got 120 votes, Nsubuga Nasser Abdul of the People’s Freedom Front party got 58 votes, while Murindwa Ivan (Independent) got two votes in the race that attracted five candidates.

The joyful Kyabwisho hailed the electoral commission for using the BVVK machines, which helped to carry out free and fair elections.

“Though I stood as an independent candidate, I still belong to the NRM party, and I had high hopes in the elections conducted by the National Electoral Commission, and it has delivered our victory,” Kyabwisho said.

“I pledge to continue serving the people of Mbarara City North to deliver service diligently, fight corruption, land grabbers and work in harmony with fellow leaders in the City, for better planning and development,” he added.

 Mbarara City Mayor-elect (NRM) party, Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi, congratulated him for winning the elections, and wrote, “what is next is to forget all that happened in the past, and we work for the people!! Otherwise, thank you for the support”.

Jomo retains Mbarara City South Division Mayor seat



In another election for the Mbarara City South Division Mayor seat, Jomo Mugabe (NRM), the incumbent, was re-elected and declared the winner after defeating his four challengers.

Mugabi secured 14,277 votes, followed by Independent candidate Francis Asiimwe Ntengye, who polled 5,562 votes, while Maryfrances Kabateraine of the Alliance for National Transformation received 315 votes, Segawa Quraish of NUP got 764 votes, and Reagan Byamukama (FDC) garnered 86 votes.
