The second and final day of the nomination of candidates for parliamentary elections saw a large turnout in Kampala on Thursday (October 23).
As was the case on the opening day, the nomination exercise for directly-elected Members of Parliament and District Woman Representatives is taking place at district or city headquarters countrywide.
The exercise officially started at 9am and will close at 5pm.
Meanwhile, the nominations for Special Interest Groups (youths, persons with disabilities, workers and older persons) are taking place at the Electoral Commission headquarters in Industrial Area, Kampala, within the same hours.
In Kampala, Alex Bukenya of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party was cleared to contest in the Rubaga South parliamentary race.
David Musiri of the Democratic Front (DF) party was nominated to vie for the Makindye West MP seat.
Rwamiti Apuuli of the Common Man's Party (CMP), which is led by presidential candidate Mubaraka Munyagwa, was also cleared to contest for the Nakawa West parliamentary seat.
Moses Rukundo Kanyangoga of FDC was nominated for the Makindye West MP race, while Singh Katongole was cleared to vie for the Rubaga North seat on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket.
Ronald Apuuli Tugume, an independent, will be on the parliamentary ballot next year as he eyes the Makindye West seat.
Musa Mbazira, after being duly nominated, will now turn his focus firmly on how to secure the Rubaga South MP seat on the NRM ticket.
Nana Mwafrika Mbarikiwa of the People's Front for Freedom (PFF) party was successfully nominated to vie for the Kampala Central Woman MP seat.
The independent candidates have 20 symbols approved by the Electoral Commission to choose from.
They are: ball, banana, boat, book, borehole, candle, car, chair, clock, coffee, cup, house, jerrycan, kettle, megaphone, pot, radio, saucepan, table and television.
