Detectives in Hoima have launched investigations into reports that Pius Wakabi, the Member of Parliament for Bugahya County, has gone missing.

The probe follows a missing person case filed at Hoima Central Police Station by his brother, Paul Rujumba.

Julius Hakiza, spokesperson for the Albertine Region Police, confirmed the incident and said inquiries are underway.

“It is true the case was reported regarding Wakabi, who has gone missing. We have since commenced investigations to ascertain the circumstances under which he went missing. Investigations are progressing well,” Hakiza stated.

Wakabi was last seen on Wednesday afternoon in Hoima City. According to Rujumba, he appeared to be in good health. He revealed that during a midday meeting in Hoima, Wakabi informed him that he was traveling to Buseruka Sub-County to meet constituents.

Rujumba further explained that at around 7:00 p.m., Wakabi telephoned him, reporting that a vehicle carrying unknown individuals was trailing his car.

“When I called back, all his telephone lines were switched off. His disappearance prompted us to report the matter to police. His whereabouts remain unknown,” Rujumba said.

Wakabi, the incumbent MP for Bugahya County, was recently declared the winner of the parliamentary election for the same seat.

He polled 30,923 votes, defeating Herbert Kato of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), who garnered 3,373 votes, and Allan Tugume of the National Unity Platform (NUP), who received 3,091 votes.
