Ex-candidate Bulira disputes 2026 presidential election results

“I don’t believe these results declared by the Electoral Commission. The 45,959 votes EC announced differ from my tallying outcomes from Johannesburg in South Africa. I was supposed to be in fourth position. But since many of the votes I secured were given to Mugisha Muntu and Nandala Mafabi, I think that is why I was placed in the fifth place,” Bulira said.

KAMPALA - Former presidential candidate Frank Bulira Kabinga has disputed the presidential election results announced by the Electoral Commission (EC), claiming the votes were altered.

According to the final results released on January 17, 2026, by EC chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of the National Resistance Movement, secured a landslide victory with 7,946,772 votes cast in his favour, representing 71.65%.

The incumbent was followed by National Unity Platform's Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu with 2,741,238 votes (24.72%), Nandala Mafabi of Forum for Democratic Change secured 209,039 votes representing 1.88%, Revolutionary People’s Party's flag-bearer Frank Bulira secured 45,959 votes representing 0.41%.

Other candidates were Robert Kasibante of the National Peasants Party, who secured 33,440 votes (0.3%), Mubarak Munyagwa of the Common Man’s Party secured 31,666 votes (0.29%) and Joseph Mabilizi of the Conservative Party secured 23,458 votes, representing (0.21%).

However, Bulira says with 95% of tallied votes, they secured 65,425, representing 0.61% of the national votes.

“Though we have enough evidence to sue EC, we will not waste our time going to court because this is not the end of the road. We will move forward with clarity, unity and unwavering dedication to make Uganda what we all deserve,” Bulira told his supporters.

He made the remarks during the Thanksgiving dinner held at the Revolutionary People’s Party headquarters on Prof. Nsibambi Road on January 20.

The dinner was organised to appreciate all Ugandans who believed, trusted and supported Bulira during the general election.

These votes, according to Bulira are voices, convictions and a clear signal that the desire for change, justice and inclusion remains alive.

“To liberate Ugandans, we commit to work tirelessly, peacefully and strategically build an inclusive Uganda that recognises all regions, empowers all citizens and advances a new federal agenda as a foundation for equitable development,” explained Bulira.

RPP secretary general Isaac Igambi said the support given to them by Ugandans not only marked the significant milestone of the party’s growth, but also demonstrated the deep trust and confidence that many Ugandans continue to place in the RPP and its vision for a prosperous future.

“We affirm that the elections were free and fair. As a party, we fully accept and recognise Yoweri Museveni as the duly elected president. We urge all our supporters to commit to the party's ideas and work diligently. Together we can build a stronger and more inclusive Uganda.” Igambi concluded.
