Elections 2026: Wakiso's Ian Kyeyune bounces back

When Musinguzi called Kyeyune to approach his desk for declaration, Najja moved very fast and picked a chair, raising it as he rushed towards Musinguzi, hurling insults and shouting that he was the rightful winner of the polls.

Former Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Wakiso district Ian Kyeyune, and also the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flagbearer, has been declared the LC5-elect of Wakiso district amidst protests by the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Najja Nasif.

“If you are not convinced by the results, you know what and where to go,” said Tolbert Musinguzi, the Returning Officer for Wakiso District at the tally centre at Wakiso district headquarters on Friday, January 23, 2026.

When Musinguzi called Kyeyune to approach his desk for declaration, Najja moved very fast and picked a chair, raising it as he rushed towards Musinguzi, hurling insults and shouting that he was the rightful winner of the polls.

After grabbing the microphone from the returning officer, he demanded that Musinguzi revise his announcement and instead declare him as the LC5 chairman of Wakiso district.

The fracas lasted for a couple of minutes before throwing the venue into paralysis until security personnel overpowered Najja, asking him to leave the venue.

The returning officer resumed his work and declared Kyeyune as the LC5 chairman-elect of Wakiso district.

Kyeyune got 177,710 votes, Najja polled 99,235, while Flavia Nakafeero of the Democratic Front (DF) bagged 10,597 votes.
