The second national vice-chairperson (female) of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, Anita Among, has implored voters in Kalungu district to elect Members of Parliament who will work with President Yoweri Museveni in the forthcoming general election.

Among, who is also the Speaker of Parliament and Bukedea Woman MP, said this on Saturday (December 20) during presidential candidate Museveni’s first campaign rally of the day at Bulakati playground in Lukaya town council, Kalungu.

“I want to request you to bring people who are going to work for this district, people who are going to work with President Museveni,” she said.

Among told the President that Kalungu was left an orphan when its electorate voted for the Opposition candidates in the last (2021) general election.

“Your Excellency, in this last term, we made a loss in this district. Kalungi has been an orphan. The only person who could talk for this district was Hajjat Aisha [Sekindi]; the rest were Opposition and their work was to oppose what you were saying and the development you wanted to bring in this district."

Sekindi, who is the Kalungu Woman MP, is the only legislator in the district who belongs to the NRM.

Joseph Ssewungu and Francis Katabaazi, who are the MPs for Kalungu West and Kalungu East, respectively, are members of the main opposition party, the National Unity Platform (NUP). Kalungu district chairman Nyombi Kamaadi also belongs to NUP.

At the presidential level, NUP candidate Robert Kyagulanyi also defeated Museveni in Kalungu by garnering 38,352 (69.3%) votes against the incumbent’s 16,377 (29.6%).

'Shame the devil'

Among also called upon the Kalungu voters to stop sending people she described as "comedians" to Parliament.

“You people of Kalungu, stop bringing comedians to Parliament. Parliament is not a theatre,” she said, arguing that all the things that the NRM government and President Museveni had planned to do for Kalungu were hindered by the area’s NUP MPs.

“And it is the same comedians who are telling you that on January 15 [2026] you should go to the streets and demonstrate.

"I want to tell you that they are doing that for accountability. When you are on the streets, they take your pictures and send them abroad, and they get money which they eat in your name."

The Speaker added: “We want to request from you that from today onwards, you are the campaign managers for President Museveni and the [NRM] flagbearers. Deliver President Museveni and shame the devil."
