The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba and his Deputy, Lt Gen. Sam Okiding, are among the ten candidates the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) army council is expected to elect today, Wednesday, January 28, 2026, to represent them in the 12th Parliament, New Vision has learnt.
On Wednesday morning, the army council, composed of members of the High Command of the UPDF and senior UPDF officers, met at the Land Forces headquarters in Bombo town to elect their representatives.
Details of the other candidate remained scanty by press time after the army locked out journalists.
An independent source said President Yoweri Museveni, who is also the Commander in Chief of the armed forces, was scheduled to attend the meeting.
Currently, the UPDF has ten representatives in the 11th Parliament and these include seven men and three women. The men are Gen. David Muhoozi, Gen. Katumba Wamala, Lt Gen. Wilson Mbadhi, Lt Gen. James Mugira, Lt Gen. Peter Elwelu, Maj. Gen. Henry Masiko and Lt Gen. Sam Kavuma. The women are: Brig. Charity Bainababo, Col Dr Victoria Nekesa and Lt Col Dr Jennifer Alanyo.
Uganda's 11th Parliament currently comprises of elected and ex officio members, totaling about 556, including direct constituency reps, Women Reps, UPDF reps (10), youth (5), PWDs (5), workers (5), older persons (5), and ex officio (ministers).
