Senior presidential advisor on special duties Odrek Rwabwogo has spoken out on his new role as chairman of the presidential advisory committee on trade and industrial development.

In an exclusive interview with Vision Group, Rwabwogo said his committee of 16 members comprises both Government institutions and key private sector apex leaders in 13 sectors, which include grain, sugar, cement, fruits, vegetables and coffee.

“I chair this committee which the President allowed us to form on March 16, 2022 and gave us targets to work within the next six years. We, the 16 people, jointly went through these 13 sectors and asked, ‘What can we tweak to increase percentages on revenue for these sectors?’  So our committee is working very hard and it has a secretariat and an executive council which meets on issues that have come from exporters,” he said.

Rwabwogo said the committee also tries to unlock what is holding exports in particular institutions.

He has of late been traversing countries such as South Sudan and DR Congo and was now heading to the US and later to the UK over the same matter.

In the interview to be published in today’s New Vision, Rwabwogo gives details of his committee and what will drive their actions on phytosanitary issues and export credit fund matters. For e-paper please click here: https://epapers.visiongroup.co.ug/
