LA Dodgers Baseball Club from Nakirebe-Mpigi emerged champions of the inaugural Easter Baseball tournament as they beat East Oceans 7-3 in a 9 innings final on Good Friday.

They bagged the top cash prize of sh700,000 as runners-up East Oceans got sh300,000 and the bronze winner Luwero walked away with sh200,000.

Gerlad Kasozi, the director of Attitude Sports of Africa who organized the event said that this was the first series of the public day’s baseball championships where the overall winner shall be determined at the end of the year.

“We want to create professionalism in baseball in Uganda through the championship series. We are so far looking at the New Year, Easter, Martyrs Day, Independence, and Christmas. We have also preferred to award cash prizes instead of trophies to boost the players' attitude to compete,” noted Kasozi. 

Henry Odong from Metha Club called on the players to be disciplined. 

“I have seen some of the national team players intending to pursue professional careers throwing the bats and ball to express annoyance but it doesn’t work that way,” noted Odong. 

The other teams that took part in the competition were Gayaza and Ashnaga.
