Uganda’s Ambassador to Germany, Danny Ssozi, has rallied German investors to capitalise on the country's vast tourism potential, calling its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage a prime opportunity for sustainable development.

Ssozi made the call last week while speaking at Oktoberfest in Gulu city.

The event, running from October 6-14 at Kaunda Ground under the theme: Celebrating Our Heritage, Hear the Beat of School, served as a platform for the envoy to engage directly with local stakeholders and international guests.

Ssozi positioned Uganda as "one of Africa’s best-kept secrets," stressing its unmatched diversity, from wildlife and adventure tourism to exceptional culture and hospitality.

“Uganda is truly the Pearl of Africa,” Ssozi stated.

“We have everything a traveller dreams of: From the Source of the Nile to the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains, to our rare mountain gorillas. We need to bring these treasures closer to the world, and Germany is a key partner in that effort.”

The ambassador highlighted the Ugandan government's commitment to prioritising tourism as a core driver of economic transformation and foreign exchange earnings.

Recent efforts include improving infrastructure, enhancing international marketing, and bolstering safety for visitors.

“Tourism is not just about sightseeing; it is about creating jobs, empowering communities, and conserving nature,” he said.

Ssozi urged for stronger partnerships between Ugandan tour operators and German travel agencies to expand Uganda’s reach into the lucrative European market.

He noted that Uganda's strategic location and favourable year-round climate make it highly attractive for eco-tourism and authentic adventure travel.

“We are seeing a growing interest from German travellers who value authentic experiences, community tourism, and conservation. Uganda offers all of these in abundance,” Ssozi said.

Germany remains one of Uganda’s largest tourism source markets in Europe.

The growing number of German visitors is typically attracted by Uganda’s world-class wildlife safaris, cultural heritage, and adventure tourism experiences.

Ssozi commended the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) for its marketing efforts in Europe and pledged continued support from the mission in Berlin to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the sector.

“Our embassy will continue to work closely with UTB and the private sector to ensure Uganda becomes a top-of-mind destination for German tourists,” Ssozi concluded.
