Toro Kingdom is optimistic that the ‘Route and Root’ festival, planned to take place in Fort Portal city come September this year, will greatly change the tourism landscape in the Kingdom.
The Toro Kingdom Minister for Tourism, Joan Else Kantu, said the three-day festival will start on September 29 and end on September 31, this year. She noted that the ‘Routes & Roots’ tourism festival will be the best way to describe their culture.
"So, I urge everyone not to miss a dazzling cultural event that will be characterised by lots of fun. I am humbled to be part of this historical event that will be held at Lake Saaka. This will be a rare experience for the participants who will turn up. I know they will leave with a good memory at the end of the day,” she said.
Kantu revealed that Tooro had one major festival, His Majesty’s Coronation that happens every year in September. “On day one, it's cultural ceremonies, and on day two, it’s when all the King’s Subjects get involved. We are also pleased with the King’s ‘Ekyooto Ha Mpango’ initiative, which is a pre-coronation activity that lasts for a week. All these define Fort Portal’s exclusive Royal rich cultural heritage, storytelling, sports, fashion and eco-tourism.”

The Route and Roots Festival is an annual cultural event that will be rotated in different regions across the country, in a bid to promote culture and tourism.
Timothy Ocen, the festival chief organiser, revealed that this year’s event will basically offer an experience worth remembering for those who will turn up.
“Many ask why culture, tourism, and music. We want each person who will attend to experience one of those. Expect three mega stages at Lake Saaka, which is going to be our main venue because it is a very beautiful place,” Ocen said.
He added that the first stage will be for culture, another one for tourism, while the third one will be for music.
The three-day-event will be characterised by a series of activities ranging from vibrant music, cultural dances, arts, indigenous food and community storytelling, celebrating African heritage.
