A Tour and Travel delegation from Mauritius has concluded a ten-day expedition in Uganda.

The initiative aims at strengthening bilateral tourism cooperation, expanding commercial visibility, and deepening Africa-to-Africa partnerships.

Hosted by the Uganda High Commission in Dar es Salaam, the delegation from Port Louis, which arrived in Entebbe on November 21, undertook a comprehensive exploration of Uganda’s signature tourism offerings.

Their schedule was coordinated by the High Commission in collaboration with the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and tourism-sector stakeholders.

A release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that throughout their stay, the visiting delegation was immersed in a curated itinerary designed to showcase Uganda’s conservation achievements, cultural richness, and its position as a premier destination for sustainable tourism and investment.

The group got a deeper appreciation of Uganda’s “Big 7,” (lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, rhinos, mountain gorillas and chimpanzees.

They also explored the country's diverse landscapes and the economic significance of tourism in shaping Uganda’s development trajectory.

Key highlights included expeditions to: Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Murchison Falls National Park, Kibale Forest and the Batwa cultural experience.

The climax was the world-renowned mountain gorilla trekking adventure in Bwindi, an experience several delegates described as life-changing.

The Mauritians praised the warmth of the Ugandan people, the vibrancy of the cultural encounters, and the authenticity of the experiences shared. Several expressed keen interest in developing new Uganda-based travel packages tailored for the Mauritian market.

On behalf of the visitors, Ivan Stone commended Uganda for its exceptional hospitality and the transformational nature of the mission.

MoFA sources reported that delegates also shared personal reflections from intimate wildlife encounters to the powerful scenery of Murchison Falls, describing Uganda as a destination with unmatched character and depth.

Representing the Head of the Consulate of Mauritius in Kampala, Arthur Nzeyi conveyed appreciation to the Uganda MoFA team in Dar es Salaam for what he described as " good leadership and commitment to strengthening strategic and diplomatic ties."

He highlighted the mission as an exemplary model of how African countries can leverage tourism to advance mutual understanding, commercial cooperation, and shared prosperity.

Ambassador. Col. Fred Mwesigye, the Uganda High Commissioner to Tanzania and Accredited to Mauritius, applauded the Port Louis delegation's engagements during the visit.

He reaffirmed Uganda’s dedication to nurturing long-term partnerships with Mauritius.

“Uganda remains committed to strengthening our partnership with Mauritius and promoting two-way tourism and investment flows. With visa-free access for Mauritian travellers, our doors are wide open for deeper collaboration, shared prosperity, and sustained growth,” he stated.

Different officials from MoFA and the Uganda Tourism Board reaffirmed that the familiarisation mission represents more than a tourism showcase.

"It's a demonstration of Africa’s potential when countries invest in one another, build joint markets, and amplify a unified voice in global travel conversations," one official stated.

"We committed to positioning the Pearl of Africa as a competitive hub for tourism, investment, and cultural diplomacy," states the MoFA media brief.
