Y. Babu (UGA) v L. Atang (ENG).
Uganda’s heavyweight sensation Yusuf “The Rolling Tiger” Babu is poised to step onto one of the biggest professional boxing stages ever for a Ugandan fighter when he faces England’s rising star Leo Atang.
The former Uganda national boxing team captain, a graduate of COBAP Boxing Club, will square off against Atang this Saturday, December 20, in a highly anticipated six-round non-title contest at the iconic Legon Sports Stadium in Accra, Ghana.
Victory for Babu could unlock his long-awaited dream of signing with a major international promotion company, as the event will be attended by UK’s legendary boxing promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing.
Hearn, who manages several world champions including Anthony Joshua, offers Babu a rare opportunity to showcase his talent before one of the sport’s most influential figures.
The Accra card is stacked with international action and will be broadcast live on DAZN Boxing. Among the headline bouts is Belgium’s Ibrahima Diallo against Ghana’s Sampson Segbedzi for the IBF International Super Welter title. Ghana’s Theophilous Kpakpo Allotey will face Philippines’ Jayr Raquinel for the WBO Super Flyweight crown, while compatriots Holy Dorgbetor and John Laryea clash for the IBF Featherweight title.
For Babu, the night represents more than just another fight—it is a chance to announce himself on the global stage.
“I have dreamed of fighting on such a big stage, and finally here it is,” Babu told Vision Sport before departing for Accra. “I can’t take this opportunity for granted. This is my time to shine and let the world see what I’m capable of.”
Since turning professional in 2022, Babu has remained undefeated, recording victories over Hudson Muhumuza, Tanzania’s Alphonce Mchumiatumbo, and DR Congo’s Yannick Katuta Manda.
In Atang, however, he faces a fresh and hungry opponent currently managed by Eddie Hearn.
“I’m unfazed by Atang being managed and promoted by Eddie Hearn,” Babu said. “Last year, Sula Segawa won the WBC Silver Featherweight title on a show organized by his opponent’s promoter. I plan to do the same.”
Like Babu, Atang is also unbeaten, having scored knockout victories in both of his professional outings against Bulgaria’s Milen Paunov and fellow Briton Cristian Uwaka.
