The WBF-Africa Heavyweight champion Shafic Kiwanuka ‘the Killing Machine’ will on July 8 step into the ring targeting nothing less than a win.
A record five title fights are lined up for the day, the first of its kind in Uganda at the International University of East Africa auditorium in Kansanga.
This was announced on Tuesday at the launch of the fights at the International University of East Africa.
Kiwanuka who won the continental title in 2019 faces Georgia’s Giorgi Kopadze for the Universal Boxing Council (UBC) heavyweight title in a 10-round contest.
This will be the first time he returns to the ring since last October when he drew with South Africa’s Chris Thompson in a non-title fight in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.
The Great Strikers International promotion ambassador promised to give his fans a deserved victory.
“Expect fireworks in the ring. I’m more than ready to rumble again, I have been training regularly and ready to go, “Kiwanuka said.
“This fight means a lot to me. I promise not to disappoint my fans and I’m going for a knockout."
In the other title fights, Latib Muwonge takes on Kenyan Emmanuel Chvoli in a 10-round duel.
Muwonge fresh from clinching the national welterweight title will be vying for the vacant WBF African Junior welterweight title in the Co-main fight event.
UPDF’s officer Lt. Aldin Muzei targets to knock down Albert Kimario, another Kenyan for the vacant Africa WBF continental featherweight title.
Muzei is the reigning national featherweight champion, a title he won after defeating rival Ben Ssajjabi early this year.
The fights include Special Forces Command Justine Okello taking on Sula Katumba for the national welterweight title and Mercy Oliver Acayo facing Salima Tibesigwa for the national bantamweight title.
Uganda Professional Boxing Commission (UPBC) president Salim Uhuru lauded the Great Strikers' promotion for promoting professional boxing.
“These activities are a sign that professional boxing is on the growth and wish all promoters to emulate Emmanuel Mwesigwa,”.
The launch was attended by Sam Buchanan, (Great Strikers chairman), IUEA’s Vice-Chancellor Dr. Emeka Akaezuwa, and Lt Col. Hakim Kato Abooki the CEO of Great Strikers International ltd.
