The Wanderers started the season worrying about survival.

But after humbling the Ceylon Lions Sunday at Kamwenge to improve to 3-0 for the season, the Wanderers may have to worry about title contention.

“We started the season hoping to win about two games,” a high-ranking official told New Vision Sports.

“But now the boys are starting to believe, but we have to take it one game at a time.”

The Wanderers have benefitted from the UCA regulation limiting national team players per league team to acquire the services of Uganda Cranes stars Frank Nsubuga and Brian Masaba on top of former national captain Davis Karashani, who has rejoined the club that developed him.

Karashani and Nsubuga were the key protagonists in the latest victory, with the latter claiming the season’s first hat-trick for the loss of just three runs. Nsubuga took 2/4 with an incredible seven maidens.

The Wanderers last won the league 22 years ago but their blend of experience and youth may just end the wait.

At Kyambogo, Jonathan Ssebanja scored a match-best 73 for Tornado Bees in a rare league tie against Africa. The Bees would have been relatively confident of victory after scoring 222/7 in the first innings, but Africa had Saddam Oyaga, with 42, lead seven players in double-digit scoring to force the most unlikely outcome.
