The Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) has elected Kyambogo University sports tutor George Wagoogo as its new president.

The elections took place during the association’s 30th Annual General Meeting held on Friday, September 26, at Uganda Christian University (UCU) in Mukono.

Wagoogo won with 56 votes, defeating Busitema University’s Agnes Baluka Masajja, who polled 31 votes. He replaced Peninah Kabenge, who had led the association for over two decades.

Kabenge will remain on the AUUS executive as a consultant in her capacity as immediate past president following recent constitutional amendments that align the association with the statutes of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and the Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU).

Other officials elected included:

Vice President (Administration): Martha Soigi (Kampala University), who beat Moustapha Nsubuga (Mountains of the Moon University) with 62 votes to 24.

Vice President (Technical): Samuel Lukaire (UCU), declared unopposed after Nsubuga stepped down.

General Secretary: Patrick Ssebuliba (Victoria University), who retained his seat with 65 votes against 23 for David Busobozi (Uganda Martyrs University).

Treasurer: Brian Miiro Nsubuga (Makerere University), unopposed.

Assistant General Secretary: Brenda Ekone (University of Kisubi), unopposed.

Students’ Representative (Male): Ambrose Kalibbala (Muteesa I Royal University), who beat Moses Sande (Busitema University) with 53 votes to 33.

For regional coordinators, most positions were uncontested. The only contest came in the central region, where Jesca Annet Kabasindi (Kampala International University) defeated Hillary Kimbugwe (MUBS) by 65 votes to 21.

Other coordinators elected were Haruna Kebba (Islamic University in Uganda, Eastern), Opio Francis (Gulu University, Northern), Arthur Kamugisha (Bishop Stuart University, Western) and Benson Kanyesigye (Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Southwestern).

The elections were conducted by Moses Mwase, president of the Uganda Swimming Federation, Jocelyn Ucanda, president of Netball Uganda, and lawyer Ivan Bwowe.
