A weekend that could have seen Salimat Tibesigwa fight for the World Boxing Council junior title against Anarayan Anahit in Dubai, turned into despair for the Ugandan fighter.

Tibesigwa was supposed to face Anahit on Saturday but the Jinja-based female boxer faced visa delays.

After a lengthy preparation for the fight on the back of six consecutive wins, the bantamweight fighter failed to board her flight after her visa was reportedly cancelled.

"We have been here since Tuesday waiting to be cleared. We could have set off on Wednesday night latest so that we reach by Friday ahead of weighing in only to be delayed up to now,” Tibesigwa’s coach Julius Mponge said on Friday.

“It is of course disappointing, but we must keep on trying for more fights until we meet our goal of being the top fighter in the world," he added.
