Vipers' Orit and Tumwesigye miss Casablanca trip
CAF Champions League
Friday, 10pm
Raja Casablanca v Vipers SC
Complexe Mohammed V, Morocco
Midfielders Ibrahim Orit and Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye are some of the players that didn’t make the Vipers' 18-man squad ahead of their CAF Champions League tie against Raja Casablanca this Friday at Complexe Mohammed V, Morocco.
They joined Marvin Joseph Youngman and Najib Yiga who started their rehabilitation after hamstring and ankle injuries last week.
However, defender Livingstone Mulondo, midfielder Siraje Ssenatmu, and striker Yunus Ssentamu returned to the team after recovering from injuries.
Vipers left for Morocco on Wednesday morning aboard Turkish Airlines. They will have a stopover in Turkey before departing for Casablanca.
New signing Karim Ndugwa is cap-tied having played in the CAF Confederations Cup with BUL FC.
The Venoms are placed in Group C of the group stages with three-time Champions League winners Raja Casablanca, Horoya AC from Guinea Conakry, and East Africa giants Simba.
With already sh2.1b assured, they will be expected to aim for more by making it past the group stages.
Vipers became the second Ugandan team to reach the CAF club group stages.
KCCA FC was the first. After eliminating Mazembe, Vipers should be confident of perhaps even doing better than KCCA.
