Vipers reclaimed the Uganda Premier League top spot after a slim 1-0 victory over Express at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Wednesday.

Captain Milton Karisa scored the only goal in the 20th minute off Yunus Ssentamu’s assist. The victory saw Vipers leapfrog BUL as they moved to 49 points.  BUL also has the same points but the Vipers have a better goal difference.

Vipers should have doubled the lead in the second half but Abdul Karim Watambala managed to miss a penalty.

Coach Richard Wasswa has called for commitment from his players in these last games.

"We should have won with more goals but we were not clinical enough. However, we shall improve in the next games. We need to take each of the remaining games like a final. Let us forget the disappointments we have had but rather focus on the remaining games,” stated Wasswa.

For Express, the result saw them remain ninth with 32 points. This was also Express' fourth consecutive defeat in the league. Earlier they had lost to Busoga United (2-1), Kitara (2-1), and BUL (2-0).

However, coach Abuabaker Mbowa believes there is a lot they need to change.

“We tried our best although we didn’t get the results. We were playing a side that is in the title chase so it was going to be difficult. However, we are going to address the concerns and bounce back to a better side. I believe we can perform better than we have done in our last three games,” noted Mbowa.
