Vipers have been drawn in Group C as they prepare to face off against some of the continent’s best teams in the CAF Champions League group stages following Monday’s draws in Cairo, Egypt.

The Venoms were drawn alongside three-time CAF Champions League winners Raja Casablanca, Horoya AC from Guinea and Tanzanian giants Simba.

The first games of the group stages will be played in February next year. Vipers qualified for this stage after eliminating Dr Congo giants TP Mazembe.

With sh2.1b already guaranteed, Vipers will be expected to aim for qualification out of the group stages and become the first Ugandan side to achieve that feat.

Vipers became only the second Ugandan team to reach the group stages of the tournament in its current iteration.

Of Ugandan sides, only KCCA in 2018 made it to this stage since CAF introduced a league stage for its two premier club competitions since 1997.

However, before the competitions changed to a new format, Uganda’s army side Simba in 1972 became the first East and Central Africa club to reach a continental final.

SC Villa also made it to the CAF Champions Cup final in 1991, before the CAF Cup final the following year.
