🏉 Victoria University clinches AUUS Varsity 7s title with dominant win over UMU

Victoria University delivered a commanding performance in the final circuit of the AUUS Varsity 7s, overpowering Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi (UMU) with a 31–10 victory on Sunday at Makerere University.

The win secured both the circuit victory and the overall championship, marking Victoria’s third consecutive title in as many years.

Star player Daniel Otim stole the spotlight, scoring four tries in the final and capitalizing on every UMU mistake. His explosive performance was instrumental in Victoria’s dominant display.

“This time we came with a different mentality,” Otim said after the match. “UMU usually scores first, but we made sure they didn’t. We kept our momentum, and I believe that’s what led us to victory.”

Beyond the trophy, the tournament served as a platform for players aiming to make the national team for the upcoming FISU World University 7s in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

“Playing in the University 7s has given us exposure,” Otim added. “We believe this is our gateway to opportunities in South Africa, and you don’t get that chance unless you compete here.”

UMU finished second overall, earning the silver medal, while Uganda Christian University (UCU) claimed third place. Makerere University impressed with a strong run to the semifinals and secured third place in the circuit after a hard-fought playoff win over Kyambogo.

UCU defeated Nkumba to finish fifth, while Kampala International University edged out Mutesa I University to take seventh place.
