The Victoria Sharks are set to host a preseason friendly match against the United States International University of Kenya (USIU-Kenya) as part of their preparations for the upcoming rugby season.
“This is our first test game of the new season,” said Sharks head coach Kevin Makmot. “We’re gearing up for the Uganda Cup, and this match gives us a chance to integrate our new signings, including Ivan Otai and Phillip Muhoozi from KOBs.”
With a renewed focus on the 15s format, Victoria’s management has placed the Uganda Cup high on their priority list. The team is determined to start strong and build momentum early.
“We’re working with a fixed calendar this season, and we believe this is the perfect time for a test match,” Makmot added.
Last season, the Sharks brought in a wave of new talent, but the team struggled to find cohesion in the early stages. Despite eventually qualifying for the playoffs, they were outmatched by the Heathens.
“We learned a lot last season,” Makmot reflected. “The players weren’t playing as a unit, and that cost us. This time, we’re focused on bonding and improving our training. We’re addressing the areas that let us down.”
With lessons learned and a sharpened focus, the Sharks are aiming to make a deeper run in this year’s Uganda Cup.
