Uganda will host four nations in the Lyca Women’s Day Cup showdown at Entebbe Oval, starting today, Saturday.
“We are excited to host this prestigious tournament and welcome our fellow cricketing nations to Uganda. The Lyca Women's Day Series is not just about competition; it’s about celebrating the progress of women’s cricket and inspiring future generations,” said Lelia Namaganda Ondeko, Women’s Representative on the Uganda Cricket Association.
The tournament will feature Nepal, Namibia, Hong Kong, and Uganda, with all teams competing not only to celebrate the growth of women’s cricket but also to earn valuable T20I ranking points.
It is a new dawn for domestic cricket and an even greater moment for the women’s game, especially with Namaganda taking up the role of Women’s Representative.
This event provides an opportunity to showcase the continued growth of women’s cricket in Uganda and beyond, offering players a platform to demonstrate their skills on an international stage. It also aligns with International Women's Day celebrations, highlighting the empowerment of women in sports.
Cricket is one of the fastest-growing sports in terms of women’s representation. The upcoming week will test teams both physically and technically, providing the Victoria Pearls with a chance to shake off the rust after several months without playing.
The Pearls squad is a blend of experience and youth, ensuring a diverse and dynamic approach to the tournament.
