Nigeria’s University of Ibadan will host next year’s FASU 3X3 Basketball tournament after participating in the 7th edition of the games at the Hamz Stadium.

Professor Michael Ajayi, who led his men’s team to this year’s championship, said since they have won the hosting rights, they were going to ensure that they host the best games, not by just wishing but by making it happen.

“We have set up committees on logistics, accommodation, and a Local Organizing Committee to ensure all areas needed to host a very good fiesta. The university is going to be highly involved

We are working hard together to ensure every aspect of these games is well coordinated. We’re not taking chances. Financing is always the issue in Africa, but we don’t want to depend on the university alone; we also want to look outside for sponsors to assist us in providing funding needed for the games.

Facilities are going to be upgraded, and feeding and accommodation want to offer the best hostel accommodation for athletes and officials. All these are very important, and we know by the grace of God all is going to go on well.

We are going to ensure all the games are held within the university campus so that we don’t have issues with transportation The ease of getting to where the games are is very paramount to us.

“We are partly here to benchmark on what has been done here so that we can learn and maybe learn from the challenges, if any. These are very well organized games because everything is in one location, which is very good.”

He said they don’t want to have a repeat of what happened when Lagos hosted with another university, but they were far apart, making it hard to easily syncronise the movement of people and teams with all the traffic jams in between. FASU general secretary Penina Kabenge said the University of Ibadan will be good hosts.

“They are committed to hosting us and it is the reason they are here to benchmark from us,” Kabenge said.
