WBF World Heavyweight Title: W. Kyakonye (UGA) vs. W. Vasquez (VEN)
The Kalverdijkje Multi-Purpose Sports Arena is set to host one of the most highly anticipated boxing showdowns in Dutch boxing history, as Uganda’s heavy-hitter, Willy “The Ring Tiger” Kyakonye, squares off against Venezuela’s ‘Assassin’, Wilmer Vasquez.
This explosive 12-round World Boxing Federation (WBF) heavyweight title fight is scheduled for May 17, 2025, in the Dutch city of Cambuur, Leeuwarden.
It is a night Kyakonye has long awaited—an opportunity to solidify his place among the top heavyweight boxers in the world today.
Undefeated since his professional debut in 2017, Kyakonye enters the ring with unwavering confidence as he prepares to face the crafty Vasquez.
“I’ve long waited for this moment, and finally here it is,” Kyakonye told Vision Sport.
“My message to Vasquez is simple: I’m waiting for you. You’re stepping into the lion’s den. Come prepared to be crucified.”
The towering Ugandan boxer is determined to crush Vasquez.
“I’ve been in camp for the past three months, and I am more than ready for this blockbuster. For the last three weeks, my focus has been on improving power and speed. My fans should know ‘The Ring Tiger’ is ready to rumble.”
Trained by legendary boxing coach Vicent Stikkolorum at the Kyokku Gym in Leeuwarden, Kyakonye believes he has the arsenal needed to knock out Vasquez.
In Vasquez, Kyakonye faces a familiar opponent from his time in Venezuela between 2015 and 2016.
Then, he became the only Ugandan boxer to compete in the Venezuela franchise under the World Series of Boxing during his tenure with the national boxing team, The Bombers.
A bronze medallist at the 2015 Africa Boxing Championships in Morocco (light heavyweight category), Kyakonye comes into this blockbuster bout boasting an unblemished professional record of 11-0-0.
He has won all eleven of his professional fights, with no draws or losses.
However, in terms of experience, Vasquez, who resides in Miami, Florida, in the United States, holds the edge. The Venezuelan has fought 18 professional bouts, winning 13, losing 3, and drawing 2.
