Coaches are the cornerstone of athletics in Uganda, yet they often go uncelebrated when athletes achieve success. Instead, the spotlight typically shines solely on the athletes, as if their victories were achieved independently.

Unfortunately, coaches are more often remembered when things go wrong, bearing the brunt of blame if athletes fail to perform well.

However, the Uganda Police athletes have shown their appreciation for their coach, Benjamin Njia, who has stood by them through thick and thin.

As a token of gratitude for his unwavering support and dedication, the athletes from the Police Athletics Club who participated in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games surprised him with a brand new car.

Led by Olympic gold medalist Joshua Cheptegei, silver medalist Peruth Chemutai, Stella Chesang, Mercyline Chelangat, Victor Kiplangat, and Martin Magengo, the team presented Njia with a brand new 2011 Rav4 during a Sunday service at Shining Light of God Ministries in Kapchorwa.

Cheptegei emphasized the importance of recognizing those who contribute to their success. "For me, it is very important to remember those who labor with us because they sacrifice a lot for our performance," Cheptegei said.

An emotional Njia expressed his deep appreciation for the generous gift. "I am very grateful to the athletes for this kind gesture. Gifting someone a car is not something easy, so I am incredibly happy for the effort they put into this surprise. This shows that they truly appreciate my hard work and sacrifice," Njia remarked.

This heartwarming gesture highlights the strong bond between coaches, and athletes, and serves as a reminder of the invaluable role coaches play in the success of athletes.
