The next 12 months promise to be intriguing, exciting, and delightful, bringing out every kind of emotion for fans, clubs, teams, owners, and stakeholders.

The year kicks off with the 8th edition of the CHAN tournament, held in Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania from February 1-28.

Football in Uganda has had little to celebrate in recent years, but 2024 was a significant win for the sport. The Uganda Cranes qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco after missing the last two editions.

CHAN presents a big opportunity for domestic players like Kitara’s Denis Omendi, whose goal against KCCA last season was nominated for the 2024 FIFA Puskás Award and CAF Goal of the Season. Players like Ronald Ssekiganda, Sadat Anaku, Bright Anukani, Rogers Mato, Saidi Mayanja, Jude Ssemugabi, and Allan Okello have the chance to improve their performance and fight for a spot on the Uganda Cranes squad heading to Morocco. Uganda needs to step up and challenge teams like defending champions Senegal, DR Congo, and others to leave a mark on the tournament.

Meanwhile, Uganda Cricket will have an action-packed 2025 calendar with thrilling competitions. Just as 2023 and 2024 were eventful and competitive for the Uganda Cricket Cranes and Victoria Pearls (the men’s and women’s national cricket teams), 2025 will keep cricket enthusiasts on the edge of their seats.

The Uganda Cricket Cranes topped the table in the first round of the Challenge League. The second round in Hong Kong will require Uganda to perform better to have a shot at the 2027 50-over World Cup. For the Africa T20 finals in Zimbabwe, the Uganda Cricket Cranes need to excel to secure their second appearance at the T20 World Cup in India/Sri Lanka, with Zimbabwe and Namibia standing in their way.

The Victoria Pearls will be optimistic about delivering spectacular results on the global stage. Later in the year, the Africa T20 qualifiers will give the Victoria Pearls a big chance to chase their third appearance at the global qualifiers.

As the year unfolds, expect more excitement from rugby, athletics, boxing, the World University Games, and many other disciplines.
