Uganda women’s basketball team (Gazelles) guard Paige Robinson faces a defining moment in her career after earning a training camp contract with the Atlanta Dream, where she must fight for a place on the 2026 WNBA roster.
The Atlanta Dream confirmed the development on Monday via their social media channels.
“We have signed Paige Robinson to a Training Camp contract. Welcome, Paige,” the team posted.
The Uganda Gazelles also confirmed the news on their X account (formerly known as Twitter).
“WNBA team, Atlanta Dream have signed Gazelles guard Paige Robinson to a WNBA training contract. Good luck,” they tweeted.
Training camp begins on April 26, where Robinson will compete against veterans, experienced internationals, and top draft picks. The contract is non-guaranteed, meaning she must impress during the preseason to secure a final roster spot.
Robinson arrives in Atlanta on the back of strong performances with the Gazelles at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket. She averaged 11.2 points and 4 assists, producing a standout 26-point performance against Ireland. She also hit a crucial late three-pointer against Senegal to force a tie.
She began playing for Uganda last year, making her debut during the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket qualifiers, where she scored 15 points against Kenya and averaged 17 points through the first few games. By the third game, only captain Jane Asinde (averaging 23 points) had better scoring numbers for Uganda.
In the absence of forward Jannon Otto, Uganda relied heavily on Robinson as a key scoring and playmaking guard during their qualification campaign in Cairo, Egypt. Otto, Uganda’s top player during the 2023 Zone V AfroBasket qualifiers and finals in Kigali, Rwanda, suffered an injury that ruled her out of action last year. She has since recovered from a torn ACL, returned to action, won the Malaysian League (where she was named MVP), and now plays for Correcamimos UAT in Mexico.
Robinson is a 5-foot-10-inch combo guard who previously played for Herner TC in Germany and averaged 13 points per game with IDK Euskotren San Sebastián in Spain’s LF Endesa, shooting 40 percent from three-point range.
Her career began gaining global attention in 2023 when she was drafted 31st overall by the Dallas Wings after graduating from Illinois State University, where she was named Missouri Valley Conference Jackie Stiles Player of the Year.
What Robinson brings to Atlanta is clear: she is a three-level scorer with 84.6 percent free-throw accuracy, reliable perimeter shooting, and strong pick-and-roll execution.
Atlanta has further increased competition in the backcourt by adding Holly Winterburn and Maite Cazorla to their training camp roster, making the battle for places even tougher.
A WNBA training camp contract is a non-guaranteed opportunity, allowing teams to evaluate players before final rosters are confirmed.
Robinson is also a naturalized player for Uganda, a status that has previously helped the national team compete at higher levels. Uganda has used naturalized players in both its men’s and women’s teams, similar to the Silverbacks, who have featured players like Ishmail Wainright and Brandon Davies, and more recently Nike Dejour Sibande, who debuted in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 qualifiers.
