Uganda’s super lightweight Latibu ‘Dancing Master’ has earned all the bragging rights after the latest global rankings seeded him among the World’s top boxers in the division.

The rankings released by the World Boxing Council (WBC) put Muwonge in second place in Africa and 39th in the world. USA’s duo of Richard Hitchens and Gary Rusell are ranked second and third respectively.

Other big dogs Muwonge ranks with globally include Great Britain’s seed five Arnold Barbosa, seed six WBC Interim super lightweight champion Ryan ‘King’ Garcia from the US, Jose Carlos Ramirez, Mexico’s Lidolfo Delgado and Regis Prograis. Muwonge is the only Ugandan boxer to feature in the WBC rankings.

Muwonge, who holds the ABU Africa super lightweight, WBF Africa lightweight, and the ABU East and Central Africa titles attributes this milestone to his hard work.

“I'm grateful to be ranked with the world’s cream de la cream. It is something I have worked for since turning pro in 2019,” Muwonge said.

“My hard work, the fans that usually come to support me, and my management team have played a vital role in making this happen.”

Since venturing into the paid ranks, Muwonge has won all his eight pro fights with his latest being a unanimous points decision victory over Kenya’s Ibrahim Odhiambo and Tanzania’s Clement Albano respectively.

He is now required to punch his weight and defy all the odds if he is to secure bigger money purses against top guns including current WBC champion, USA’s Devine Haney, and WBO champion Honduras US-based Teofimo Lopez, among others.

Muwonge returns in the ring on February 24 against Ghanaian Faisal Abubakar for the WBO Africa Super Lightweight title at the Lord’s Wembley Sukura Arena in Accra, Ghana.
