Organisers have called on Ugandans to participate in the charity run aimed at supporting disadvantaged children and youths in Katosi.

The annual run, which continues to grow in popularity, is more than just a sporting event.

This year’s edition carries a strong humanitarian purpose, as all proceeds from the marathon will go towards constructing a home and a tertiary training institute for vulnerable children and young people in Katosi.

Participants interested in taking part in the race will purchase a running kit priced at shs35, 000. Organisers emphasised that every kit bought directly contributes to the project, making each participant part of a life-changing initiative.

The race will feature two categories, a 2km and a 5km road race, with the starting point at Legends Rugby Club. Runners will traverse different parts of the city including Kololo, Lugogo and Naguru before returning to the finishing point.

Speaking during the launch, Judith Kyakusiima from Golden Beside and Nursing Service highlighted the importance of running as a form of exercise, noting that physical activity plays a key role in maintaining good health and fitness.

“Running helps people stay healthy and active. When individuals are healthy, the entire community becomes stronger,” Kyakusiima explained, adding that such community activities encourage wellness while also bringing people together for a good cause.

One of the land donors for the project, Martha Ssemwanga from Christ Church Kisasi, revealed that the initiative was inspired by the many challenges faced by children and youths in Katosi.

According to Ssemwanga, the area still struggles with limited access to essential services and opportunities, leaving many young people at a disadvantage.

“We decided to construct a tertiary institute in Katosi so that children and youths can gain practical skills that will help them survive and generate income,” she explained.

Similarly, Doreen Kimuli urged the public to take part in the race and support the cause, emphasizing that the marathon is not only about fitness but also about transforming lives.

“Every kit you purchase means you are making a difference in someone’s life. This is not just a run, but an opportunity to give hope to disadvantaged children,” Kimuli said.

The fourth edition of the Run Fest Marathon was officially launched on Thursday, March 12, at Christ the Heart Church in Kisasi, with the run scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
