Uganda's celebrated steeplechase champion Docus "The Arua Gazelle" Inzikuru has joined efforts to empower rural women coffee farmers.

The Commonwealth gold medalist was unveiled last week as brand ambassador for Aspire Africa Group ahead of the upcoming Coffee Marathon in Rwashamaire, Ntungamo District on May 24.

Rolland Tayebwa, Publicist for Aspire Africa Group, explained their choice: "Inzikuru's iconic status in Ugandan sports makes her the perfect ambassador to highlight our marathon's objectives of supporting rural women in coffee farming."

Inzikuru expressed enthusiasm for her new role: "I'm honoured to advocate for these hardworking mothers who dedicate their lives to coffee yet see little reward. This marathon recognizes their vital contribution to Uganda's coffee industry," said the athletics legend.

The event, organized by Aspire Africa Group, will feature competitive 42km, 21km, and 10km races plus a 5km fun run, all starting and finishing at Africa Coffee Park in Rwashamaire.

"This marathon celebrates Uganda as the birthplace of robusta coffee," Tayebwa emphasized. "We want every Ugandan to participate and take pride in this important part of our heritage."

The sporting event will culminate in a concert headlined by Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz, joined by Western Uganda's music stars Ray G and Sister Charity.
