Uganda’s national women’s golf team continued to find the going tough as the All-Africa Challenge Trophy Tournament raged on at the the Gymkhana Golf Club in Dar-es-salaam on Wednesday.
After the second round’s action there was no improvement for Uganda, as they instead slipped from 6th position to 7th with fast-improving Nigeria displacing them.
Peace Kabasweka and Meron Kyomugisha were Uganda’s scorers in the round with identical nine-over 81 each for a total of 162; an improvement of one stroke, which wasn’t enough to keep them in 6th.
As the Ugandans slipped, Nigeria’s Amina Wilfred and Evelyn Oyome combined for 159 in the round to jump from eighth to sixth on the leaderboard.
Only the best two scores in each round count to the country’s score per round.
Day one leaders and hosts Tanzania were also overtaken by South Africa whose best scorers Bobbi Brown and Gabrielle Venter combined for a gross score of 145 in the second round, a four-stroke improvement from the first.
Tanzania’s Hawa Wanyeche who produced the best score in the first round; three-under 69 could not replicate her heroics as she carded 79 in the second with Angel Eaton chipping in with a 75 to help their country remain second, 7 strokes off the leader and record winners of the event, South Africa.
