The 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games in Saudi Arabia will go down in history as Uganda’s most successful outing since the country first joined the competition in 2005.
At the 6th edition held in Riyadh, Uganda secured a record-breaking 13 medals, finishing 16th out of 57 participating nations. This tally surpassed the country’s previous best by three medals, achieved at the 2022 edition.
Uganda’s athletics contingent, which returned home last weekend, delivered the lion’s share of the success with seven medals.
Gold medalist Rebecca Chelangat triumphed in the women’s 10,000m, while Samuel Simba claimed silver in the men’s 10,000m.

Halima Nakayi added another silver in the women’s 800m, and Charity Cherop secured silver in the women’s 5000m. Bronze medals in athletics went to Samuel Simba, Shida Leni, and Abel Chebet.
Beyond athletics, Uganda celebrated victories in swimming, boxing, and table tennis. Gloria Muzito won two gold medals and a silver in swimming, while Jesse Sengonzi added a bronze. In boxing, Alfred Ojok clinched bronze. The final medal came from the women’s doubles table tennis team, with Jemimah Nakawala and Parvin Judith Nangonzi earning bronze.
Uganda’s performance in Riyadh not only marked its highest medal haul in a single edition but also underscored the nation’s growing strength across multiple sporting disciplines.
