Uganda will participate in the 4th edition of the Africa Youth Games, scheduled to take place from December 10 to 20, 2025, in Luanda, Angola.

Preparations for this year’s event began with the Chefs de Mission meeting held last month in Luanda, where officials from all 54 participating African nations convened to coordinate logistics and planning for the continental youth showcase.

Uganda’s Chief of Mission, Harriet Ayaa, who also serves as President of the Uganda Gymnastics Federation confirmed that the country will be represented in four disciplines: Women’s Basketball 3x3, Table Tennis, Swimming, and Athletics.

“We considered rankings and medal prospects when selecting our disciplines. For instance, Uganda is currently ranked number one in African women’s Basketball 3x3, which made it an obvious choice,” Ayaa explained.

She noted that financial limitations also influenced the selection, despite Uganda’s strong performances in other sports such as Badminton and Dance Sport.

At the previous edition held in Algeria, Uganda earned five medals: three silver and two bronze.

The 2025 Africa Youth Games will be hosted across three Angolan cities—Luanda, Benguela, and Bengo—and will feature over 2,500 athletes from across the continent. The event also serves as a qualifying platform for the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal, slated for next year.
