Four athletes will represent Uganda at the World Athletics Relays scheduled for May 2–3 in Gaborone.

The team consists of two female and two male athletes, all under the guidance of coach Moses Asonya. The female athletes are Shida Leni and Maureen Banura, while the male athletes are Haron Adoli and Kenneth Omuka. They will compete in the 4x400m mixed relay.

This marks Uganda’s second appearance at the World Athletics Relays following its debut at the 2025 edition in Guangzhou, China where the team finished fifth in heat one  and set a national record of 3:16.59. That outing laid a strong foundation, and the focus now shifts to building on that momentum in Botswana.

Team coach Asonya remains confident in his athletes’ form, particularly highlighting the recent performances of Haron Adoli and Kenneth Omuka at the Africa Athletics Championships qualifiers in Nairobi. Adoli clocked an impressive 45.07 seconds, a time that signals the team has potential to compete at a higher level.

“The team is in good shape,” Asonya said. “When Adoli and Omuka competed in Nairobi, they performed very well. I expect to see even better times going forward.”

Beyond individual performances, Asonya has set clear team targets including reaching the finals and breaking the national record once again.

“My target is to reach the final and improve on the national record in the mixed relay. In athletics, anything can happen,” he added.

The team is expected to depart for Botswana on April 30, giving them adequate time to adjust and better their strategy ahead of the competition.
