The Uganda Rugby Union (URU) launched the Nile Special Rugby Premiership at Copper Chimney Restaurant on Thursday, marking the start of the 2026 rugby season.
“We are proud to officially announce the launch of the 2026 Uganda Rugby Premiership. This event also marks the opening of the Uganda Rugby calendar, setting the stage for a season of unparalleled excellence,” said URU president Kayangwe.
The launch also highlighted renewed commitments from the Union’s partners, Rockboom and Nile Special, who unveiled new sponsorship packages to support the league.
Rockboom will serve as the official hydration partner, supplying water to all 12 men’s teams and seven women’s sides throughout the season.

“We have confidence in this sport, in the Union, and in the fans. This year Rockboom is bringing energy to Ugandan rugby. We are planning to energise the game, and we appreciate that this does not happen without the players,” said Samuel Hooper, Head of Marketing at Harris International.
Meanwhile, Nile Breweries reaffirmed its long-term commitment to Ugandan rugby, pledging sh1.3 billion this season as part of a new five-year sponsorship deal.
“We have now embarked on a five-year journey. As we do this, we are clear on two things: the players are the epitome of the game, and no game can happen without the fans. We must create experiences for fans to enjoy themselves and, ultimately, elevate rugby to the international podium,” said Wangechi Gitahi, Head of Marketing at Nile Breweries.
